FIWMD NOTICE TO RESIDENTS AND CONTRACTORS
Seasonal Schedule Change
Effective October 1, 2026, through April 30, 2027
The Fishers Island Waste Management District (FIWMD) will be implementing seasonal changes to the Transfer and Compost station schedules beginning October 1, 2026.
Thank you for your input! Please see the survey results and new station guide below.
Please note we have extended Sunday hours at the Transfer Station through October 31 and will revisit at that time.
The seasonal schedule includes the following changes:
- Open TUESDAY-SATURDAY
(added back SUNDAYS for Transfer Station: 8 am to 12 pm to be revisited October 31) - Open ALL DAY on Tuesday (Transfer + Compost am/pm)
- Open HALF DAY on Wednesday (Transfer am / Compost pm)
- Closed 12:00 to 12:30 daily for lunch
- Fall + Spring extended hours cleanup weekends to be announced
Residents and contractors are encouraged to plan accordingly to make use of the available operating hours.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding as we adjust our operations for the seasonal schedule.

Dear Fishers Islanders,
Thank you to everyone who shared feedback about our winter hours. We apologize for inconveniencing one of our important constituencies.
In response to your concerns, the Transfer Station will be open on Sunday’s from 8 am to 12 pm for the month of October, and we will revisit at the end of the month.
After a very busy summer, we’re adjusting to seasonal changes in use and recruiting new team members. We appreciate your patience while we do.
