FIWMD – HLF Museum Coastal Path Agreement

Fishers Island Waste Management District has an agreement with the Henry L. Ferguson Museum to use the coastal edge of its Compost Station property for natural and historic conservation activities and public benefit.

The Museum commissioned a New York Natural Heritage Program ecological survey detailing the site’s native and invasive flora and management recommendations. The approximately 4.8-acre license area includes a rocky beach, maritime shrubland, woodland, as well as Fort artifacts. The Museum is excited to begin planning a coastal path and will keep the public informed of details and progress.

The area falls outside of FIWMD’s operational footprint and enabling this new use fulfills a component of FIWMD’s mission to be mindful of the fragile nature of our small island environment and community.
